Since 2001, the Municipal Library Havířov branch on J. Seifert St. has been holding the EKOLYMPIÁDA ecology and environment contest. It is intended for three-member teams of elementary school pupils from not only Havířov. Participants can look forward to interesting competitions, tests, games, eco quizzes, presentations and practical demonstrations (with a different topic each year) at each station. This event includes a quiz to determine the smartest individual. We find out how much pupils know about the relationships between ecology and everyday life and how they can influence them with their behaviour. All the children receive interesting prizes. The winning team receives the traditional EcoCake.
The pupils expand their knowledge of nature conservation, and they get the satisfaction of competing together. The goal of these games is not only to find out what the children have learned at school, but also to check their thinking skills, because thinking can be a useful life skill.

Noc s Andersenem (A Night with Andersen) is an event that all librarians are familiar with. We've decided to put our own spin on it and try out what it's like to switch our telephones, tablets and all other devices off. We use the whole evening to be creative, play board games or just talk with the teenagers. We also organize a midnight picnic with a pre-selected film on the night's topic.
The aim of this event is to show the children that we can communicate without social medial and mobile phones.

The Havířov seed library was established on 2 December 2015 in the eco corner in the Municpal Library Havířov on J. Seifert St. 8.
The seed library is an initiative created to support the free sharing of seeds, seeding and natural gardening. The seeds are available for everyone free of charge. Gardeners bring seeds from vegetables, herbs or ornamental plants in little bags marked with the name, date and place of origin.
Lectures held by the seed library are intended for all age categories. The library guests are both experienced experts and enthusiastic gardeners. Gardeners exchange seedlings at spring meetings, and everyone gets to taste meals made from the harvested plants in autumn.
The seed library helps develop the local community and enables meetings, experience sharing and education in the given area.

This traditional K-klub event supports sustainability and is held twice a year in cooperation with the ADRA Havířov Volunteer Centre (Dobrovolnické centrum ADRA Havířov).
This project allows people to exchange clothes, books, household items and jewellery, simply anything that is no longer of use to its owners. We support sorting and recycling, and by passing things on, we save energy and the planet, extending the life cycle of products. Volunteers regularly help organize this event.
K-klub for children - Reading in orphanages

Kids
K-klub MěK Havířov has been cooperating with the Sluníčko orphanage since its establishment. The original purpose of this collaboration was to make the children happy, so we started thinking about how we could both entertain the children and, most importantly, introduce them to the functioning of this youth club.
It wasn't easy in the beginning, it took the children a while to warm up to us. We started by personally inviting the kids to our first Book!Con, and then we visited them with a box full of books (International Book Giving Day 14 February). We soon began to realize that staged readings at the orphanage are a great success and bring joy to us and especially the children.
Our last great success was a reading on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Božena Němcová.
These readings are most beneficial for children without a home. They aren't always able to visit a library, or they don't know where it is, so we try to let them know that our librarians from K-klub are always here for them. They can turn to us with any problem they have, we help them with compulsory reading and choosing books, or they can just come to "chat".

Become a fierce warrior, a mysterious alchemist or a powerful wizard! What are we talking about?
A new fantasy role-playing game in which you can experience many epic adventures. Try out what it's like to be a wizard and master of magic, or to destroy monsters in the body of a warrior. There are seven races and six professions to choose from. Nothing is predetermined in the game, it's all up to you.
We organize regular meetings with the creators of this game, and they are always very willing to come and play with a bunch of enthusiasts. We were even given the rules of this game, so the kids can come play it with us. Games are great tools for forming a community, usually fans of the fantasy genre. Dračí Hlídka (Dragon Watch) develops imagination, which truly knows no bounds here.
Financial literacy game room

Kids
This morning project aims to increase financial literacy. Pupils are put in charge of the money of a fictitious Czech family in the board game Finanční svoboda (Financial Freedom), which faithfully simulates how money is handled in families. This is a fun way for children to improve their financial and economic literacy. The game rooms are divided into two departments led by two librarians that underwent intensive two-day training. The game room is intended for upper elementary school and secondary school pupils to help improve their financial literacy in a practical way.

MINI MANGAFEST is held every spring for all fans of manga and anime. Our great collaboration with the CREW publishing house allows visitors to learn something new from the world of Japanese comics and meet the people who work at the publishing house.
We decided to hold the event in K-klub, as we noticed that young people are very interested in manga and the whole Japanese culture. This is a one-day event held in March, including lectures and an accompanying programme where we make origami, draw on graphics tablets and explore virtual reality.
